What is Surrogacy ?
Surrogacy is the process in which the mother and father's genetic material is placed in another woman's womb (surrogate) who carries and gives birth therefore essentially it is their baby, genetically and is nurtured by the surrogate's womb who handover the baby to the rightful parents.
In medical terminology, surrogacy is a method of assisted reproduction. There is no involvement of vaginal intercourse between the intended parents and the surrogate mother in the entire surrogacy program. The procedure is carried out by the doctors by mixing the sperm and egg collected from the genetic parents in a laboratory through a procedure called In vitro fertilization. The resulting embryo created from the genetic parents is then implanted into the uterus of the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother always carries the baby inside her with an intention of giving the baby after birth to the intended parents. Thus the baby born to a surrogate mother is genetically related to the biological parents.
What is the major difference between traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy ?
Gestational surrogacy is one where the baby doesn't have any genetic connection with the carrier as a already fertilized embryo gets implanted in the women, on the other hand traditional surrogacy bears the genetic imprints of the carrier.
